Where Pepper Grows
Kampot pepper comes from the coastal region of Kampot in Cambodia, an area considered by experts to be the home of the world’s finest pepper. The combination of ideal climate conditions and mineral-rich soils provides the perfect environment for cultivating this exceptional spice.
The Kampot region has a rich history and a long tradition of pepper cultivation dating back to the 13th century. Even then, Kampot pepper was treasured by Khmer kings and traded as a valuable commodity.
RIAHOU Kampot Pepper is grown and processed using traditional methods, relying solely on natural techniques for pest control and fertilization.
Harvesting and Production of Our Pepper Varieties
Each type of pepper develops its own unique flavor profile, defined by the harvest time and careful processing:
-
Green pepper is harvested early and preserved through fermentation in salt, keeping it fresh and juicy with a pleasantly mild heat.
-
Black pepper is produced by sun-drying the green peppercorns, resulting in an intense, sharp flavor.
-
Red pepper comes from fully ripe red berries and is known for its fruity sweetness.
- White pepper is also made from fully ripe red berries, which are fermented and then peeled to create a mild and delicate taste.
What Makes Our Pepper Special
During our visit to the coastal region of Kampot—renowned for its exceptional pepper—we met a dedicated farmer who cultivates Kampot pepper in long-standing family tradition. Our close collaboration allows us to ensure the outstanding quality of our pepper while supporting small farmers in the region.
Our peppercorns are vacuum-sealed directly on the farm to lock in their full aroma and ensure long-lasting freshness.
